Spirit of Eden Faust Iv Carrie and Lowell Live Kind of Blue
1.Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Ella and Louis (1956)
Ella and Louis has to be one of the greatest couples that ever recorded music together. Ella's sweet and elegant voice and Louis' expelling charisma are the perfect background for the most loveliest lyrics and instrumentals I've heard in any jazz record. Cute stuff. 22.Little Richard
Here's Little Richard (1957)
The Prince of the 1950s, or at least when it comes to their explosive, loud, over-the-top presentation. While the instrumentals and song structures can be a little one note for rock & roll standards and it's traditionally "substanless" compared to other albums of that year, Richard's performances are some of the most wildest and entertaining demonstrations of unfiltered energy. Extremely catchy, spontaneous and simply fun to listen to. 3
3.Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely (1958)
Essentially, the refined version of In the Wee Small Hours. There's very few albums of that decade that could capture melancholy, sadness, depression, vulnerability and hopeless solitude as this albums does. Powerful and rich arrangements to accompany one of the most powerful and rich voices of all time. A masterpiece of human decay. 4![Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers [Moanin'] Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers [Moanin']](https://e.snmc.io/2.5/img/images/blank.png)
4.Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers
Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers [Moanin'] (1959)
Why is Kind of Blue so high again? The instrumentals are exhuberant, the performances are energetic, the production is organic, and while it isn't as experimental as Charles Mingus' records of the same year, this album is highly enjoyable and basically the jazz equivalent of dopamine. The definition of a literal bop. 5
5.John Coltrane
Giant Steps (1960)
Coltrane be like:T R I A N G L E
6
6.Columbia Symphony Orchestra / Igor Stravinsky
Stravinsky Conducts Le Sacre du printemps (1961)
Since this started a riot we can officially declare Stravinsky as proto-punk. 7
7.Berliner Philharmoniker / Herbert von Karajan
Symphonie Nr. 5 (1962)
Ladies and gentleman, this is Mambo N° 5. 8
8.Jorge Ben
Samba esquema novo (1963)
"Mas, que nada!" is one of the greatest opening songs of all time, and the rest isn't that behind too. There's a clear influence from their contemporaries like Gilberto Gil and Meirelles, but Ben's sturdy and relentlessly piercing voice along with its beautiful arrangements and songwriting makes it for one of the best samba albums ever conceived. 9
9.Stan Getz & João Gilberto featuring Antônio Carlos Jobim
Getz / Gilberto (1964)
It's afternoon on Copacabana and you're sitting in the beach while you're looking at the sunset and the sun is hiding under the blue ocean. No preocuppations, no worries, no troubles, as you're listening to João Gilberto's smokey, deep and calming voice while Stan Getz gently embellish the soft instrumentals with its saxophone. What else you could ask for? 10
10.Vince Guaraldi
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
If this album doesn't make you feel comfy, you have a serious problem.

11.The Beach Boys
Pet Sounds (1966)
How an album that's so insecure and emotionally vulnerable can be so gorgeous and lovely at the same time? 12
12.The Mothers of Invention
Absolutely Free (1967)
Surreal. That's the only way to... summarize it? This album in a word. But it would be an understatment if that's the only word you would use to represent the massive creative perspective that this asshole presented us with its self-indugent, whacky, almost kinkly jarring piece of work that's feels literally "absolutely free", like a bird. I adore this record. 13
13.The Velvet Underground
White Light / White Heat (1968)
It's preposterous to me start to talk how "widely influential" or "very unique and strange" this album is, because (to me at least) it is so unnecessary to explain why I personally love this album. We all know how it is and how it sounds like, I love it, you love it, almost everyone does. It's a freewheeling album that birthed one of my favourite genres and it is still to this day the only album that make my tinnitus enjoyable... well, along with another one, heh. 14
14.Pharoah Sanders
Karma (1969)
Recently I've heard this album and it BLEW MY FUCKING MIND, HOLY SHIT. This is easily the jazz album that I could define as "spiritual". Absolutely transcendental, so good I can't believe it's actually real. 15
15.The Stooges
Fun House (1970)
This album made the Beatles broke up THINK ABOUT THAT SHIT FOR A SECOND 16
16.Can
Tago Mago (1971)
This is too good of a review for me to not share with y'all:
It's secretly a concept album about a young man who is about to die.
In Side A he is diagnosed with a terminal illness. This brings him into a deep depression which he struggles with, eventually he experiences hallucinations ("Well I saw skies are red")
In Side B he realizes that his days are numbered, and staying indoors and moping is no way to while away his final moments. He decides to enjoy his final days and PARTY WILD! GET CRUNK! During this period he takes some drugs and does some real bad things. I guess this would be set in the late 60s
In Side C after the latest night in a month of wild debauchery, the illness finally claims him. He then travels to hell and experiences awful, ghastly thingz
In Side D our antihero makes his escape. He blunders on, from eldritch corridor to eldritch corridor, eventually stumbling upon hell's deepest circle. What he sees frightens him deeply (hence Suzuki's grizzled wailings). He eventually finds the exit but a big ol Cerberus beast is on his tail. He escapes and returns to our earthly realm, but lives the rest of his life as a traumatised wreck. He cannot form a coherent sentence, which is why "Bring Me Coffee Or Tea" has such nonsensical lyrics. THEE END.

17.Yes
Close to the Edge (1972)
I wholeheartedly love Clube da Esquina, but it isn't Close to the Edge. Pink Moon is a raw, earnest, sparse masterpiece of sorrow and easily the most haunting album of that year, but it isn't Close to the Edge. Basically the most fun, vibrant, colorful, over-the-top, mind-bending, creative, catchy, bouncy, sublime, tight, epic, monolithic, astonishingly blissful and beautiful prog rock album of all time. There's not gonna be another album like this ever again, and I'm so grateful it exists. The culmination of musical expression as a whole."You can keep your Dark Side of the Moon; this, my friends, is where it's at." cak.
18
18.Faust
Faust IV (1973)
The fact that such a mediocre album like Houses of the Holy is above literally the most experimental and creative album of the 70s saddens me. 19
19.King Crimson
Red (1974)
Proto-Progressive Metal that's far more enjoyable than almost every prog metal album. Starless is the song. No more need for overblown statments. It's the song. 20
20.Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here (1975)
Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting. 21
21.Stevie Wonder
Songs in the Key of Life (1976)
You have to be such a boring individual to not enjoy at least the instrumentals or Stevie Wonder's amazing and vibrant voice. You have to be dead inside or something. 22
22.David Bowie
"Heroes" (1977)
I'm still struggling if I prefer this over the wonderful proto-Ichiko Aoba piece that A Boy ボーイ is, but the title track is just a 10 alone. This is David Bowie's peak, emotionally, artistically, experimentally, lyrically, and everything positive ending on -"lly". This is David Bowie's darkest yet finest moment, and wow I just can't help but love it. 23
23.Silvio Rodríguez
"Al final de este viaje..." (1978)
Fucking language barrier, man. Basically, if this album were on English it would be above and higher than Pink Moon, because compositionally and especially lyrically this album is so much better. There's no album that's as poetic, as important and can resonate as much with as this album does. Simply gorgeous. Silvio Rodríguez is one of the best singer/songwriters of all time, and I hope one day this site recognize it as such.
The smell of my mom's notebooks, my dad's old car, the nights going from the same beach where they first met to our home. Al Final de este Viaje is a pretty evocative record for me, most of these songs used to be the soundtrack of our holiday trips during my childhood, with my parents singing along and me falling asleep to the gorgeous guitar playing of Rodríguez.
I can't fight the amount of feelings that this album gives me.

24.The Residents
Eskimo (1979)
I don't listen to this album very often because I seriously question my mental sanity after a while. Anyway, to this very day there's not an album that sounds as creative and has such a weird-ass concept exists. It's almost post-post modern and trascendental. An atmosphere so cold yet freaky would never be replicated again. 25
25.Talking Heads
Remain in Light (1980)
dancing while having a mental breakdown: the album

26.Los Jaivas
Alturas de Machu Pichu (1981)
In a fair world, this is regarded as one of the seminal and most exquisite prog rock albums of all time. Poetic, tightly constructed around the works of chilean poet Pablo Neruda, rich from a musical standpoint and oddly catchy despite its combination of prog rock and andean rock tendencies. One of a kind album that's been a favourite of mine since my childhood. Am I biased because of that? Maybe. And I don't give a shit. 27
27.Kate Bush
The Dreaming (1982)
Animalistic, femenine, addictive, dangerous, but especially manic. I've never heard such an album that intrigues me and makes me feel like a whole different person while listening to it every single time. God, this is such an anomaly and a triumph of life. 28
28.Daniel Johnston
Hi, How Are You: The Unfinished Album (1983)
I... I can't.Rest in peace, sweet prince.
Thank you for everything. 29

29.Metallica
Ride the Lightning (1984)
hahahah eden you fukin nromie ass metal entry for lsoers haha metalca suks dick 30
30.The Jesus and Mary Chain
Psychocandy (1985)
Man, 1985 was truly a lame year for music, but at least we have this. This is if Brian Wilson tried to make music that sounded if the only thing he listened to was The Velvet Underground and was kidnapped in a room with shitty equipment and guitars. I dunno why, but it sounds like that for me.
31
31.Swans
Public Castration Is a Good Idea (1986)
i really need to reconsider my kinks

32.Depeche Mode
Music for the Masses (1987)
It's called "Music for the Masses" despite the fact is dark as fuck HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM 33
33.My Bloody Valentine
Isn't Anything (1988)
"Isn't Anything" is basically the antithesis of Loveless; it's a cruder album, more disconnected from himself, hopeless, full of grief and lament. I can't believe that the same band that created the musical equivalent of falling in love for the first time could create something so desperate, so emotionally dense. The perfect predecessor to an even more perfect album. 34
34.The Cure
Disintegration (1989)
I've been looking so long at these pictures of youThat I almost believe that they're real
spoiler: click to readPaul's Boutique is kinda lame ngl
35
35.Cocteau Twins
Heaven or Las Vegas (1990)
This is borderline unintelligible at times yet it never fails to make me feel like I'm floating in an ocean of bliss. 36
36.My Bloody Valentine
Loveless (1991)
"Loveless is called Loveless because, in the needing of love, what we sought after is everything this album represents and gives". —FregeBamyasi 37
37.Faith No More
Angel Dust (1992)
RV is basically Tom Waits singing over Mario Music 38
38.Slowdive
Souvlaki (1993)
This is just a dream, and I don't want to wake up anymore. 39![Weezer [Blue Album] Weezer [Blue Album]](https://e.snmc.io/2.5/img/images/blank.png)
39.Weezer
Weezer [Blue Album] (1994)
WILL TOLEDO JOINS WEEZEROH SHIT OH FUCK 40

40.Scott Walker
Tilt (1995)
The album cover alone scares the shit out of me. 41
41.Belle and Sebastian
If You're Feeling Sinister (1996)
As much as I love Soundtracks for the Blind, personally I think this album represents my very whimsical, soft and kind-hearted nature much more accurately. This is one of the few albums that I really wish I could made, because it truly represents my personality. Uplifiting, efortless, comfy, this feels like a embrace to my dorkiness. 42
42.Ween
The Mollusk (1997)
The Mollusk is a goofball of an album. It's silly, it's inmature, it's raunchy as fuck at time, it doesn't know what it truly wants to be genre-wise and emotionally speaking, but man there's very little albums that are as fun, eclectic, playful and has a total lack of seriousness while displaying an array of different emotions at the same time. One of Ween's most evocative and colorful records, and the powerful statment on how music shouldn't be taken so goddamn seriously. 43
43.Seatbelts
Cowboy Bebop (1998)
The greatest soundtrack ever to the greatest show ever created. Do you need something else? 44
44.Fishmans
98.12.28 男達の別れ (98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare) (1999)
Literally the only live album that made me cry in the first listen. Man, we truly didn't deserve Shinji Sato. 45
45.Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! (2000)
Basically, the End of Evangelion of music. Apocalyptic, haunting, life-changing. The soundtrack of world's decay. 46
46.The Microphones
The Glow Pt. 2 (2001)
I thought I felt your shape but I was wrong,Really all I felt was falsely strong.
I held on tight and closed my eyes,
It was dumb; I had no sense of your size.
It was dumb to hold so tight.
But last night on your birthday in the kitchen,
My grip was loose, my eyes were open.
I felt your shape and heard you breathing,
I felt the rise and fall of your chest.
I felt your fall,
Your winter snows,
Your gusty blow,
Your lava flow.
I felt it all:
Your starry night,
Your lack of light.
With limp arms I can feel most of you.
I hung around your neck independently
And my loss was overwhelmed
By this new depth I don't think I ever felt.
But I don't know
My nights are cold.
And I remember a warmth...
I could have sworn
I wasn't alone. 47

47.Queens of the Stone Age
Songs for the Deaf (2002)
Wilco and Interpol are boring as shit man 48
48.Sweet Trip
Velocity : Design : Comfort (2003)
I can't even imagine how this album would sound like back in 2003 considering that it's still sounding like the music of the future. 49
49.Madvillain
Madvillainy (2004)
Livin' off borrowed time, the clock tick faster. 50
50.Gorillaz
Demon Days (2005)
Considering this album was my gateway for more alternative and "experimental" genres and artists, it will always have an special place in my hearth. I love it when I was 10 years old, and I love it as much now. One of the most amazing art pop albums ever. 51
51.My Chemical Romance
The Black Parade (2006)
This is easily better than a lot of Radiohead albums, and I adore them dont @ me 52
52.Radiohead
In Rainbows (2007)
Not too little, not too much. The perfect marriage between electronic and human elements. Radiohead's true masterpiece. 53
53.ミドリ [Midori]
あらためまして、はじめまして、ミドリです。 (Aratamemashite, hajimemashite, Midori desu.) (2008)
"I Have No Guts, My Family Is Scum" that title track somehow describes this album perfectly. It's gross, it's disgusting, it's catchy, it's amazingly tight and has some of the most wild performances and instrumentals I've heard in any album ever. Simply amazing. 54
54.Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009)
This one and V:D:C are the first albums that I will try while on acid tbh 55
55.Kanye West
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
if there's a better soundtrack to coming face-to-face with everything you hate about yourself i've yet to hear it

56.Grouper
A I A: Alien Observer (2011)
How an album can feel so haunted yet so beautiful at the same time? 57
57.Death Grips
The Money Store (2012)
Punk Weight sounds like a nightcore bass boosted meme and I'm totally okay with that. Gnarly yet catchy as shit. 58
58.青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba]
0 (2013)
Soul-cleansing. Amazing how basically Ichiko Aoba was able to create such beautiful, gorgeous, almost mysterious and cozy tunes with her guitar, her voice and almost nothing else. Everything about this album feels like an post-apocalyptic lullaby. 59
59.Swans
To Be Kind (2014)
I'LL STEAL ALL THE OXYGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN 60
60.Sufjan Stevens
Carrie & Lowell (2015)
It was very tough to choose between this one and To Pimp a Butterfly, but there's very few albums that impacted me and helped me through hardest times like Carrie & Lowell. My heart wasn't prepared for this in 2015, but it showed me that there's always hope even in the most daunting darkness. 61
61.Frank Ocean
Blonde (2016)
This album.
This album is the true representation of love, this album is the manifestation of the most pure, genuine and most beautiful soul-touching sentiments a person can express for others.
It's quiet, it's subtle, it's not even perceptible, but when you realize is there, you can't stop thinking about it. It takes a part of your heart, your soul, your body, and even your values and how you see others. It isn't uncontrolled, chaotic, or turbulent, even in its most unwaveringly moments of hesitation, solitude and overwhelming uncertainity.
This is what love is about, and this album is a part of my life. This album is a part of me.
Thank you, Frank.

62.Neil Cicierega
Mouth Moods (2017)
Yes. Not even joking. This is easily the album that I've listened the most during 2017 and still bumping to this day. I don't give a shit what you think, Neil Cicierega is a genius. 63
63.Daughters
You Won't Get What You Want (2018)
This album sounds like a guy kidnapped you and shoved you inside an abandoned construction site and made you listen to improvised rock music using random equipment on the construction site and then the guy has a panic attack and kills you.
I don't know why I find that enjoyable, but I do.

64.Weyes Blood
Titanic Rising (2019)
Natalie Mering chose the perfect title and album cover for this record: this album feels incredibly sorrowful and covered in melancholy and regret, and the only way to get over everything is starting to being the best version of yourself, start to make your ship afloat. An excellent record that I can't recommend enough. 65
65.Fiona Apple
Fetch the Bolt Cutters (2020)
This album doesn't feel like an "album", it feels like a theatrical show. Fiona Apple's raw personality, combined with its incredibly expressive singing and beautiful, sharp poetry about the exploration of the worst and best of our human nature, is something that I resonate to the core. I adore this.Source: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/EdenIsNotHere/edens-hall-of-fame-favourite-album-of-each-year/
